TOP FOOD GITHERI MASALA

Githeri is a traditional Kenyan dish that consists of boiled whole kernels of maize and beans, typically kidney beans or cowpeas. It is a simple and nutritious dish that is popular throughout Kenya, particularly among the Kikuyu people.

 Githeri is often served with vegetables, such as kale or spinach, and may also be accompanied by meat or fish. It can be seasoned with a variety of spices and herbs, depending on personal preference and regional variations. Githeri is a staple food in many Kenyan households and is enjoyed as a hearty and satisfying meal.

Githeri - RECIPE

Ingredients:

2 cups of dried maize

1 cup of dried beans

1 onion, chopped

2 tomatoes, chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1 tablespoon of TOP FOOD Githeri Masala

Salt and pepper to taste

Water

Oil for cooking

Instructions:

1. Soak the dried maize and beans in separate bowls overnight.

2. Drain the water from the soaked maize and beans and rinse them with fresh water.

3. In a large pot, add the maize and beans and enough water to cover them. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let the mixture simmer for 45-60 minutes, or until the maize and beans are tender.

4. In a separate pan, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it is soft and translucent. Add the minced garlic and TOP FOOD Githeri Masala and cook for a few more minutes, stirring occasionally.

5. Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook for a few more minutes until they are soft and the mixture is fragrant.

6. Add the sautéed onion, garlic, and tomato mixture to the pot with the boiled maize and beans.

7. Season with turmeric powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir everything together and continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes until the flavors have melded together.

8. Serve hot and enjoy!

Note: You can adjust the amount of TOP FOOD Githeri Masala to your liking, and you can also add other vegetables such as carrots or green peppers to the dish if desired.
